The Latest Word / Negotiations Update From DGA

“Today the WGA filed charges with the National Labor Relations Board against the AMPTP for its refusal to bargain in good faith with the WGA. It is a clear violation of federal law for the AMPTP to issue an ultimatum and break off negotiations if we fail to cave to their illegal demands.
We are in the midst of the holiday season, with thousands of our members and the membership of other unions out of work. It is the height of irresponsibility and intransigence for the AMPTP to refuse to negotiate a fair agreement with the WGA. We reiterate our demand that the AMPTP immediately return to the negotiations, rather than going on vacation, so that this town can be put back to work.
The DGA announced today that it may commence negotiations with the AMPTP in January. The DGA has to do what is best for its membership, and we will do what is best for ours. We wish them well, but they do not represent writers. Our strike will end when the companies return to negotiations and make a fair deal with the WGA.”

SCI-FI-LONDON

There is just five months until SCI-FI-LONDON 7 is underway, and we're sure you're as excited about it as we are. Submissions opened on November 1, through withoutabox.com and films have started to arrive. We already have two excellent features confirmed, PARAGRAPH 78 and WOLFHOUND (the Russians are coming, the Russians are coming!) and more fantastic international films in the pipeline. As always, we are looking for the best genre films that you would not otherwise see in your local multiplex.

news:Although it is great watching other people's films it doesn't compare with the thrill of seeing your own film on the big screen with an appreciative audience. If you haven't got around to making your own movie yet, SFL7 is offering you two chances to get motivated and get your creative juices flowing.

First up is the SFL 48 Hour Movie Challenge. From 10.00 am on Saturday 5th April you will have 48 hours to write, shoot and edit a sci-fi movie of no more than five minutes in length. You register on the website (opens in March) and put a team together - we recommend 5- 6 people eg: writer, sound, lights, director, editor and runner.

The catch? Well we tell you the name of your film and give you a mix of specific sub-genre, character, a prop (which you may have to source) or a few lines of dialogue, all of which have to appear in the movie. The finished movie has to be returned to us by noon on Monday 7th April.
